What is Music for Missionaries?
Music for Missionaries is a completely free service for all full time missionaries, friends, and family, no strings attached—I will only ever use your name, e-mail, and mission name for this site and service. If your Mission President has any concerns, please have him contact me directly and let me know what I can do differently.
How does it work?
Simply sign up above! You will receive a confirmation email immediately (check your spam and promotional folders if you don’t see it), then you’ll start receiving the weekly email with MP3 downloads of that week’s hymns!
How much does it cost?
The weekly email is a completely free service for all. Full time missionaries will also have free access to digital copies of each year’s “Best of Music for Missionaries” CD and sheet music book! Those items will also be included for all paying subscribers and will be available for separate purchase on this website!
Why am I doing this?
I married at 20 and never had an opportunity to serve an actual full-time mission, but I pursued music and my education with a passion because inspiring others through music felt like my life mission and one of the best ways I could help people to come know the Savior!
How can you help?
All contributions go towards continuing to build Music for Missionaries and providing the highest quality product possible for free to the over 70,000 full time missionaries serving throughout the world! I invite you to consider making a donation below to have access to all the benefits of Music for Missionaries and support me in my mission of sharing the light and love of Christ through music with the world! If you can’t at this time but are enjoying the service, please like us on Facebook, leave a review, and share with your friends, family and any missionaries you know!
Who am I ?
I started playing piano for our small branch in Monmouth, IL when I was 12 and have been playing for church in just about every setting ever since. I pursued a Bachelor’s of Music in Piano Performance at Snow College and the University of Utah, studying both classical and jazz piano; that was followed by a double Master’s of Music in Music Performance with a classical and jazz piano emphasis at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. I taught piano part-time at Snow College for 4 ½ years until I quit to stay home full time. I married the love of my life in the Manti Temple almost 12 years ago, and we have three darling little boys.
My classical and jazz training, combined with over two decades of experience playing for church has helped me to develop a unique voice—one that I hope will bring you joy, hope and peace. 🙂
The Story Behind Music for Missionaries
The inspiration for Music for Missionaries came when I finally put together everything for my home recording studio. A friend of mine mentioned that her son (a former piano student of mine) said he needed his “Heather Music” and they mailed my CD down to him. I asked if he had a favorite hymn and said I’d be happy to record it and send it to him in an e-mail. I then thought, “as long as I’m recording music and sending it to one missionary, I might as well see if any other friends have a missionary they’d like me to send it to.” The thought then turned into, “why not all the missionaries?” As soon as I thought that, it was like a download to my mind of “this is what you need to do,” and I had a clear vision of what I needed to create. I grabbed my journal and a pen, and with the help of some great friends, we’re here!
It has long been a dream of mine to share my testimony with the world through my music. Growing up in rural Illinois in a small branch, the piano became my lifeline, and music became a huge part of how I connect with God and share my beliefs. One of my favorite things to do is to help people feel the Spirit and love of God through the music I play.
I’ve given away many copies of my first CD to friends and students leaving on missions and I’ve heard from many of them that my CD was the only thing they brought that they were allowed to listen to—and that they and their companions loved it! I am so excited for the opportunity and blessing I have to share my music with these awesome men and women consecrating a season of their lives to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ around the world. I pray my mission of sharing inspiring music will help strengthen their faith, help them feel the Spirit and magnify the time they have to consecrate to the Lord.
